Overview

Hydegate Estates is today, possibly, the best known independent residential letting agent in the area. The company is owned and run by Paul & Marie Barrett who are both professionally qualified and have many years experience dealing with all aspects of the residential property market. From our office in Amersham on the Hill we have an enthusiastic and dedicated team whose mission is to offer a professional and comprehensive lettings and management service.

We opened our first office in January 1986. Initially based in Prestwood dealing in land acquisition and development. Early projects at Hydegate Estates included the conversion of residential houses in to flats, land and property acquisitions resulting in planning permission. With a supply of new houses to sell Hydegate Estates opened the Estate Agency in 1987. In 1990 Marie Barrett joined the firm bringing with her many years experience in residential property management.

Following the change in legislation in 1988 regarding residential lettings and the downturn in the sales market in the early 90’s Paul & Marie saw an opening in the market. They developed contacts with relocation agents and the military and actively promoted lettings. Starting with just a few houses their management portfolio quickly grew from forty to sixty and then to eighty and onwards. When N.A.T.O arrived in Naphill Paul & Marie actively sought additional property to meet the demand , frequently taking on two or three houses a day. Hydegate worked with Canadian & American officers and Dutch and Danish Embassies.

We developed a particularly strong link with the Norwegian Embassy who commissioned Hydegate Estates to carry out a viability study to decide if they should rent or buy. Hydegate Estates were also called into advise on the creation of a tenancy agreement which has become the standard which many still work from today. With the increased activity we moved, in 1994, to larger offices in Great Missenden where we have worked for the past fourteen years. In that time our area of operation has grown and Hydegate Estates have generated thousands of lettings.

Great Missenden has however become more difficult to work from with clients risking a parking ticket each time they called. We have therefore moved to newly refurbished offices in Amersham which are more central for access to the properties we manage and easier for clients to visit. We are fortunate to be situated beside the pedestrian access to the town centre car park.

We offer a comprehensive lettings and management service together with professional advice on residential development and investment . Our operational area is the central Chiltern Hills broadly bounded by the M4 to the south, The A41 to the north, the M25 to the east and a line between Thame and Aylesbury to the west.
